About Me

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”

Get to know me

My name is Emily, and I am a private language teacher raised in Haiti & Florida. I’ve lived in 4 countries (the US, Haiti, Italy, and Malaysia) and have been teaching privately to adults & in schools for 8 years.

I’m a traveler who loves to explore the world, food, & culture. I’ve visited 35 countries so far and am determined to reach my goal of visiting 50 before turning 50.

Whenever I’m not traveling, you can find me watching movies on Netflix, eating, making art, and of course, planning my next trip!

My Teaching Style

I’m passionate about traveling and meeting people, which reflects in my teaching. I’m a strong advocate of Immersion language teaching, as it helps students gain a natural understanding of a language, using techniques that make it relevant and meaningful to them. This can include conversations, role-play, songs, and stories that allow students to speak in a creative and engaging way.

I founded Language Cadet because I believe in the importance of language learning and cultural exchange, and want to spread that with everyone.

What My Clients Say

REVIEWS

I worked with Emily in the months leading up to my trip to Italy, where I was going to be getting married and I would meet my Italian family…

She kept me accountable, tailored our lessons to my specific needs, and really helped me feel prepared to speak Italian in the real world. I love working with her and would recommend her to anyone!

I took Italian lessons with Emily for almost six months. The lessons were instrumental in helping me pass an oral Italian exam required for my graduate degree…

Emily planned interesting, challenging, and enjoyable lesson plans and homework that improved my Italian across reading, speaking, and writing. Her lessons have made me a confident Italian speaker. I felt like Emily really listened to my goals, saw where I was struggling, and helped tailor my lessons to address my challenges and reach my goals. As a teacher, she was attentive, kind, and clearly very knowledgeable about the language. I would especially recommend lessons if a classroom setting wasn’t getting the results you wanted or you have specific goals that you are trying to reach. Being able to do the lessons virtually was also a huge plus – they fit into my schedule and I could do them from my own apartment.  If you want to be a confident speaker and have a language lesson you look forward to every week, then I highly recommend lessons with Emily.

I had the pleasure of having Emily as my French teacher, and she is amazing! She has a way of making learning fun and interesting, and I truly enjoyed our lessons.

She has a great sense of humor and is able to explain complex concepts in a way that’s easy to understand. The best part is that she is extremely patient and willing to answer all of your questions. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent French teacher!

Emily is a very talented teacher. Her lessons are always tailored to address areas of difficulty and still promote advancement, and are as engaging as they are effective.

Emily takes an active interest in the lives of her students, which adds to her ability to assign custom coursework. My wife is also a professional language teacher, and couldn’t help but admire and seek to emulate many of Emily’s tricks of the trade while I studied with her. I could not more highly recommend learning a language with Emily. In the course of our work together, she became a lifelong friend in addition to a teacher. I hope others have the same opportunity.
